BS 1501 161BS 1501 161 specifies requirements for fully killed carbon steel plates up to 150 mm thick in three grades which relate to minimum tensile strength. The plates may also be supplied having specified elevated temperature properties in which case they are designated with a "B" at the end of the specification rather than an "A". Plates are supplied in the normalised condition although at the manufacturer's option the normalising treatment can be ommitted for plates up to and including 40 mm thick provided that all specified property requirements are met when the steel is in the hot finished condition.BS 1501 161 430A and BS 1501 161 430B: the specificationThe grade BS 1501 161 430A shows that the steel will have a minimum tensile strength of 430 N/mm2 (430). BS 1501 161 430B is the same in all respects except that it also has has elevated temperature properties specified (B).
