Dihydrostreptomycin Sulphate

Dihydrostreptomycin sulfate is an antibiotic belonging to the aminoglycoside class, which is derived from Streptomyces griseus. It is commonly used in the treatment of bacterial infections. Dihydrostreptomycin sulfate exerts its antibacterial effects by inhibiting protein synthesis in susceptible microorganisms. It accomplishes this by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby disrupting the translation process and leading to the suppression of bacterial growth.

This antibiotic is particularly effective against gram-negative bacteria, including some strains of Escherichia coli and Salmonella, as well as certain gram-positive bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Dihydrostreptomycin sulfate is often used in combination with other antibiotics to enhance its spectrum of activity and reduce the likelihood of bacterial resistance.
