316 / 316L stainless steel plates are part of the austenitic family of stainless steel and is the most widely used varieties of stainless plate. 316 grades contain a higher level of Nickel than 304 giving it an improved corrosion resistance over 304 grades. 316/316L plate is a good option for marine applications due to a good atmospheric corrosion resistance. 316L is a low carbon modification to 316 grade.Aakash Steel stocks only dual certified 316/316L grade plate certified to ASTM A240 AND ASME SA240.
These steels are the second most regularly specified stainless steels after Type 304and are part of the SAE defined 300 Series which encompasses a range of austenitic chromium-nickel alloys.Austenitic stainless steels like Type 316 are widely available, have good general corrosion resistance, good cryogenic toughness, and excellent formability and weldability.
316L, the low carbon version of Stainless steel 316, while Type 316H is a higher carbon variant of 316 mainly suitable for elevated temperature applications. 316Ti is a titanium stabilized version of 316. Resistance to sensitization is achieved in type 316Ti with titanium additions to stabilize the structure against chromium carbide precipitation, which is the source of sensitization.
